My spiritual journey began at a young age. My mother was an organist and often played in different churches. I loved to go with her during rehearsals and explore each spiritual community, noting their different approaches and becoming inspired by the common elements across faiths.

Meditation and contemplation has always played an important part in my spirituality. I sought out quiet places for reflection in high school, eventually leading to a regular meditation practice. In my youth, I was deeply moved by the Transcendalists, especially Thoreau and Emerson.

The mystics of many faiths have also been a great inspiration to me. My spirituality has been shaped by the insights of Thomas Merton, Bede Griffiths, Meister Eckhart, Teresa of Avila, Rumi, Hafiz, Buddha, Shantideva, Ramakrishna, and Vivekananda. Each of these spiritual teachers explores the experience of spirituality, something we value greatly at All Souls.

During my Master of Divinity and Ph.D. studies, I focused on spirituality and ethics, exploring how we should live in light of our spiritual awareness. I continue to be energized by exploring how we can bring our spirituality to life by service in the greater community. During my career, this interest led to service in nonprofits serving those experiencing homelessness, the working poor, and those working for environmental protection.

I hope you’ll join us at All Souls as you deepen your spiritual journey. You’ll find loving and compassionate members of our community who experience spirituality and live it in their daily lives.
