Legend of Zelda Rumors of Fans Were "Frustrating" to Donkey Kong Developers When Eric Kozlowsky was hired by Retro Studios, it resulted in reports of the company in the process of developing a brand new Zelda game.

The artist had previously worked for PlayStation's Uncharted series however, and due to reasons that are not clear, this caused fans to draw an association. But, Kozlowsky and Retro Studios were actually developing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which was released in late 2015. When it was finally revealed, many Zelda fans blasted it, claiming they were hoping for something different. In a recent interview on Kiki Talkz on Kiwi Talkz podcast, Kozlowsky admitted that the rumor was a source of frustration for the developers.

"Sometimes it's frustrating because it leads to false expectations. It was what happened when we announced Tropical Freeze. It was like 'they're working on some kind of Zelda game They're working on something like a Zelda game,' but nope. And then we released Tropical Freeze and it looks amazing and gorgeous and people then go "oh, but it's just another Donkey Kong.'

Then you realize that everyone is slapping it on Neogaf or some other site and you're thinking 'oh, and everyone thought we were doing something similar to a Zelda game. But it's this isn't what does our team.'
