Inspired by Beauty all around her, Maggie Cahoon creates paintings that push the boundaries of traditional landscape paintings, suggesting a connection to something beyond that which we consider “ordinary reality”.  Using the wax-based medium of encaustic, her work asks the viewer to reorient their sense of Self to a more expansive experience of the human psyche. The paintings suggest a novel, creative, spiritual realm. Once one is posited in this new location, they are subtly invited to reflect on and ponder this fresh vista. New connections are made within, and one comes away feeling gently touched and inspired. Through this experience of being taken out of our habitual experience of life, we can align with Spirit and the Divine in a new way.

Artist Statement:  Using the wax based medium of Encaustic, I create paintings that explore inner landscapes of the human psyche. The narrative element of the work hints of a luminous intelligence beneath the surface. By attempting to penetrate the permeable boundary of what is called real, I am always listening, conscious of what lies within, while simultaneously looking to what lies just out of view. My intention is that the viewer will pause and ponder, and in doing so will experience the subtle reordering of reality that is inherent in the offering.

March Art Installation

Light, Water, Land

On display through March 1 - March 30

This show is by a group of watercolorists who are inspired by nature.  Sometimes the most striking watercolors are those that capture light.  We all crave more light, but it is all the sweeter after a time of darkness.  We paint to learn and discover a new way of seeing, and hope to share this experience with others.
